FISH FARMING
Although Nepal is a land-locked country, the water resources of Nepal isn’t limited. There is still a great potential for Nepal to develop its fish farming industry. The majority of the fish productions currently are coming from eastern Terai region, with some hilly districts developing themselves as a good hub for rainbow trout, a cold-water fish species. Indigenous and exotic fish species are farmed in Nepal. Terai is the site for carp, tilapia and catfish.
IDEA is establishing fish ponds in Madi (with a total land area of 65 Ropani) and Dang, with total area of 1,000 Ropani targeting mainly to farm carp, tilapia and catfish.
WHITE SANDALWOOD PLANTATION
White Sandalwood is in high demand in countries like India, China, Japan, Taiwan, America and European countries but the current production across the world accounts for only one-fourth of the global market demand. Limited supply and high demand have led to a steep rise in sandalwood price. It is estimated that white sandalwood will remain scarce for at least another 50 years.
White Sandalwood is an evergreen tree. The oil from the wood and the wood are used as medicine. White sandalwood has the highest value among sandalwood. It is used for treating common cold, cough, bronchitis, fever, and sore mouth and throat. It is also used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), liver disease, gallbladder problems, heatstroke, gonorrhea, headache, and conditions of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease). White sandalwood can also be used as flavoring in food and beverages. In manufacturing, white sandalwood oil is used as a fragrance in soaps, cosmetics, and perfumes.
IDEA is introducing “Grow a tree, prosper a family” project to local farmers nationwide starting from 2021. Farmers will buy White Sandalwood seedlings at a low price from IDEA. They receive plantation training – with the guarantee of the free replacement of seedlings at the 1st year. IDEA guarantees to buy back the mature wood from the farmers.
ANIMAL / LIVESTOCK FARMING
IDEA will focus more on Livestock farming. Livestock farming is a great source of food production. It provides a variety of protein choices to our daily lives. With the fast growing population, sufficient and diverse food production is essential to a sustainable economy.
